Chun-Li | DIGITAL VIDEO WALL #3
FILTRO is the chosen theme for the 2022 chapter of DIGITAL VIDEO WALL by the curator Gemma Fantacci. FILTRO is a survey in the artistic field of the results of the research of five international artists on the tools offered by the digital instruments, invited to present their own variation of the theme and to animate the METRONOM video wall for one month each. The fourth video presented by FILTRO is Chun-Li (2017) by Cassie McQuater.
Cassie McQuater's practice is inscibed in net art and her work stands at the intersection of new media video games to examine the practices of objectification of the female body in today's media landscape, subverting the logic of appropriation of the female body subjected to the so-colled male gaze, a chauvinist and often misogynistic glance. The protagonist of the video, the video game charachter Chun-Li, is now free to reclaim possession of her actions and movements, free from any kind of external intervention.
With DIGITAL VIDEO WALL Metronom offers a place dedicated to display and present digital art languages, in order to explore the expressive possibilities and relate to the complexity of the context of new technologies.
