CHARACTERS | YELENA YEMCHUK
On the occasion of Photo Vogue Festival 2022, will be presented Characters, a solo exhibition by Yelena Yemchuk, on Thursday 17 November 2022 at 6.30 pm inside the spaces of Nonostante Marras in Milan.
The exhibition project curated by Marcella Manni collects a series of photographs and paintings made by the artist over the years. Characters are the many protagonists that animate the imaginary of the Ukrainian photographer: an unpublished Xion of photographs from Yemchuk's last travels, collected in the УYY series (2022), coexist with the pictorial representations with which the artist tells dreamlike narrarions. Characters shows also the fashion portraits created by the collaboration with Antonio Marras in 2006 for the project Ten Year After.
The constellation of the different and surreal characters built by the artist seems to be held together by an invisible thread that connects and composes in sequences and atmospheres that return without ever repeating themselves. Yemchuk's gaze, poetic and full of nostalgia and affection, takes us back to a dimension of childhood and freedom.
