On the occasion of FestivalFilosofia 2012 dedicated to the things, METRONOM presents Joe's Junkyard, a solo exhibition by the American photographer LISA KERESZI. The exhibition shows a selection of photographs taken mostly between 1998 and 2004, documenting the family business, a junkyard for two generations. Spanning 50 years, Joe's Junkyard is a personal narrative that explores the achievement and subsequent demise of the American dream.
Lisa Kereszi's grandfather was a first-generation American who built an empire of used cars and scrap metal in Pennsylvania, during the 1950s. Kereszi's disquieting, tender photographs of the last decade of the junkyard tell the story of this family and its struggles with a changing economy, urban decline, tragic and untimely deaths and the challenges of an independent business. In this photographic series, Kereszi repeatedly locates themes and motifs of impermanence and loss in the landscape of the junkyard.
