Christto & Andrew have been selected as shortlisted for New Discovery Award, promoted by the International festival Les Rencontres de la Photographie d'Arles. For the occasion they will show the premiere body of works Encrypted Purgatory, in a personal exhibition inside the spaces of Ground Control in the city of Arles, a former industrial hangar turned into an exhibition space, from 2 July to 23 September 2018.
Among the ten shortlisted artists, during the opening week of the Festival, an International committee will assign the New Discovery Award. In addition, the People's Choice Award will be assigned after a public vote.
Christto Sanz (Puerto Rico, 1985) and Andrew Jay Weir (South Africa, 1987) live and work in Doha, Qatar. Since the inception of their collaboration in 2012 they have exhibited internationally, in institutions as Kraftwerk, Berlin (2017); NRW Forum, Düsseldorf (2016);Espai Tactel, Valencia (2016); Museu Nogueira da Silva, Braga - Portugal (2016); Katara Art Center, Doha (2014); Multimedia Museum, Moscow (2015); Unseen Photo Fair and Festival, Amsterdam (2014); Atelier Nèerlandais, Paris (2014). Nel 2014 they were selected as FOAM Talent and in 2016 as Campaign Artist for Unseen Fair, Amsterdam. In 2016 Metronom released Muddy Waters, limited edition volume with texts by Chiara Bardelli Nonino, Alessia Glaviano and Francesca Alfano Miglietti, on the occasion of the artists' first solo show in Italy at NonostanteMarras, Milan.
