Event Modeling (2023) by Ziyang Wu & Mark Ramos is the third video screening inside Metamorphosis, fifth edition of DIGITAL VIDEO WALL, an annual project structured in thematic chapters, which promotes the dissemination and experimentation of digital art.
Metamorphosis is the theme chosen for the fifth edition of the DVW, which focuses on the visual and conceptual investigation carried out by several artists at the intersection of artificial intelligence, bots, algorithms, virtual and gaming environments. The series unfolds across multiple thematic threads, exploring how the new frontiers of technology shape human dynamics and how they constantly redefine our relationship with machines and technology.
Event Modeling consists of two works: AI Fossil and #dump. It pronounces how our reality is being mediated and profoundly changed by digital technologies.
Among the content pushed by his own social media algorithms, Ziyang Wu takes news and events and fed their titles into the image generating Artificial Intelligence dreamfields3D. For AI Fossil, the AI created 3D models from those texts, as if fossilising the filter-bubble reality the artist lives in.
Developed in collaboration with Mark Ramos, #dump is a live simulated online environment, based on the 3D models built for AI Fossil. Ramos and Wu tagged the 3D models with matching keywords, once these keywords are found in new tweets, #dump will dump the relevant 3D models in real time into the virtual landscape of a salt mine. Hinting at activities of extraction and expansion, the 3D models will continue to 'landfill' the landscape, a metaphor of how digital technology will colonise every facet of our lives.
With DVW Metronom offers a place dedicated to the exhibition and presentation of digital art languages. The peculiar position of the video wall, which allows 24-hour use from the street front, transforms the DVW into an urban intervention, a way to redesign and change the image of the street.
